About Us

Kristen Thessing is a certified Prosthetist Orthotist, accredited through the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics.  Kristen has sixteen years of experience including two residency programs; Orthotics at Shriners Children’s Hospital in Greenville South Carolina and Prosthetics at Center for Independent Rehab Services (CIRS) in Palo Alto, California.  She began her career in 2004 and has been working with infants diagnosed with plagiocephaly, brachycephaly, scaphocephaly and craniosynostosis for the past ten years.  Her love for infants and their need for a cranial remolding orthosis quickly became her area of expertise.   Kristen thoroughly enjoys being a part of the STARband treatment and interacting with the families.  Cranial Kids is the next step for her to continue to treat infants in their home environment, physical therapy appointment or doctors visit.

Kristen has a passion for prosthetics and orthotics because of her personal story and experience.  After graduating from college, Kristen joined the Peace Corps in South Africa teaching kids in their elementary schools.  Shortly into her volunteer work she was involved in an automobile accident that resulted in a below knee amputation.  Four months after her amputation she ran a four mile race proving to herself losing a leg wasn’t going to stop her.  One year later she was accepted at the University of Texas Southwestern for Orthotic and Prosthetic school.

She continues to run, hike, ski, mountain bike and participate in triathlons.  Kristen has a beautiful family, her husband Matt and their four daughters, Bella, Emma, Ruthie and Addelyn.  Home life is just like every other mom out there. Kristen is busy with homework, cooking, cleaning, basketball, gymnastics, violin, 4-H, chickens, and home management. Her husband Matt Thessing owns a physical therapy clinic, Spine Extremity Rehabilitation Center (SERC), in Woodland Park.  The entire family loves to go on bike rides together, swim at the aquatic center and family night around their fire pit with hot dogs and smores.
